Starting Pitching, Resilient Hitting Gives Cardinals Tenth Inning Walk-Off Win

LIBERTY, Mo. – After six lead changes and three ties, Ben Click called game in the bottom of the tenth inning against Maryville University on Tuesday night. His bases loaded two run single put the Cardinals over the Saints in a non-conference matchup by a final score of 14-13.

Jewell moves to 20-22 on the season after the back-and-forth affair, remaining 11-13 in GLVC action with two weekends left in the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cardinals got on the board in the first with an RBI single from Justin George. Down 4-1 in the second, Ilyas van den Bos cranked a three run blast to left field to even the game up at 4-4.
  • After a Saint solo shot in the third inning, Jewell took the three run lead courtesy of a bases-clearing double from Luke Bies and a Will McCombs base knock that plated Bies.
  • Jewell tacked on two more runs in the fifth, while Maryville added four runs in the seventh to tie the game at 10 all.
  • Click battled to lea-doff the ninth, drawing a walk. Bies homered to left in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.
  • In the tenth inning down 13-12 and the bases loaded, Click ripped a single down the right field line to give William Jewell the 14-13 extra inning walk-off win.

KEY STATS

  • Nick Fitzanko came into the game for the last two innings, getting his second win on the year.
  • Bies led the Cardinals with a 2-for-4, five RBI performance while plating two runs himself, accounting for half of the 14 Jewell runs.
