LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell baseball lost their series finale to Missouri S&T on Monday afternoon by a score of 9-3. Teams traded early runs but S&T broke it open in the eighth inning by scoring five runs. Jewell falls to 15-17 on the year and 7-9 in GLVC contests.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jordan Phillips got his first pitching start in a Jewell uni on Monday, allowing an RBI double for S&T to jump out to an early lead.
• Bottom half of the inning left fielder Evan Jilbert sent a ball down the right field line that carried enough to make it a 1-1 ballgame.
• A two-run top of the fourth allowed for S&T to regain the lead but Justin George ripped a double down left field to score Jilbert.
• Teams went scoreless in the middle innings until the Miners threw up a five-run top of the eighth inning to make it 9-2. Rui Yoshida had a sacrifice fly in the ninth but it would not be enough as Jewell lost 9-3.

KEY STATS

• Phillips gets the loss in his first NCAA pitching start, striking out a pair, walking two, and giving up three runs in 3.1 innings pitched
• Jewell was outhit 15-5 by the Miners, the most since being outhit by 12 by Drury a month ago on March 7.
