ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team dropped a non-conference match-up to Maryville University on Wednesday afternoon, 11-1 in seven innings. With the loss, Jewell is 15-18 on the year and remains 7-9 in GLVC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints got up early with a five-run bottom of the first inning.
- After teams traded short second-inning plate appearances, Will McCombs hit a homer to center field, his fourth on the year.
- Maryville added five more in the fourth for a 10-1 score, followed by a lone run in the fifth to have a 10-run lead.
- In the seventh the Cardinals were able to get runners Cale Blasi on third and Rui Yoshida on second but fell short of scoring resulting in a 11-1 run rule.
KEY STATS
- For the second time in as many games, Jewell's starting pitcher doubled as their designated hitter. Wednesday it was Brayden Blundell who only went one-third of an inning, giving up five runs in his first loss.
- Jewell was struck-out 10 times, the most since a season-high 16 versus Saginaw Valley State.

Jewell will be back on the conference slate Friday when they travel to Jefferson City for a four game bout with the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University.
