KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team opened the Truman State Invitational with a 3-0 loss to Missouri Western on Friday evening to drop to 0-9 on the year. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• With the Cardinals trailing by just five early, Missouri Western rattled off 15 straight points to open set one with a 25-5 win. 
• Jewell found their footing in set two, holding a two point advantage after a kill by Macy Bartlett but the Griffons finished the frame on an 18-7 run to take set two 25-16. 
• In the finale, MWSU jumped out to a 14-5 advantage. Jewell scored three straight midway through, after a kill from Emma Lea Benney to pull within eight but the Griffons finished with a 6-3 run to take the match. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• The Griffons finished with a game high 13 aces while Jewell was limited to a -.098 attack percentage. 
• Sarah Maden led the offense with five kills while Olivia Starr had seven assists. 
• Alexis Nunn finished with seven digs while Benney had six.
