Cardinals Down UIndy 79-65 to Win Fourth Straight

INDIANAPOLIS - The William Jewell men's basketball team outscored UIndy 48-27 in the second half on Thursday night, rolling to a 79-65 win over the Greyhounds. The Cardinals win their fourth straight and sixth of the last seven  to improve to 9-7 on the year and 5-3 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams went back-and-forth early as neither could gather more than a four point advantage through the first 13 minutes of action. After the Cardinals got a bucket from Justice Sutton to go on top, 24-23, UIndy went on a 15-6 run to take an eight point advantage. Bradley Lightbourne was 1-for-2 from the free throw line just before the half to send the teams to the locker room with the Greyhounds in front, 38-31.
  • Jewell came out of the break and immediately cut into the deficit, going on a 20-3 run, led by seven points from Lightbourne and six by Kyle Scharbrough to take a 10-point lead. The Hounds tried to rally, pulling within four after a three pointer from Carmelo Harris, but another Cardinal run extended the advantage to a game-high 14 after triples from Sutton, Ashton Jermain, and Isaac Patterson down the stretch.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Sutton led the Cardinals with a career high 30 points while Lightbourne added 20 and Scharbrough 11.
  • Lightbourne and Kanukayi Gudza each finished with six assists as Jewell posted 20 assists to just three turnovers.
