ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell men's basketball team put together a balanced attack on Saturday afternoon to down Lewis University, 68-60, and win their fifth straight contest. The Cardinals improve to 10-7 on the year and 6-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The going featured seven ties and nine lead changes as neither team could capture momentum. With Lewis leading 19-17, the Cardinals rattled off six three-pointers by four different players over the next five minutes to open up a 13-point advantage. The Flyers stopped the run but a Kyle Scharbrough reverse layup close the half with Jewell in front 40-29.
- The Cardinals came out of the break, pulling ahead by as many as 18 in the second half, after a three pointer from Ashton Jermain. With under seven minutes remaining, Lewis used a 13-2 run to get back within six but a layup from Isaac Patterson coupled with a well-timed Kanukayi Gudza triple pushed things back to double digits as Jewell held off the home team down the stretch.
