ROLLA, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth affair on Friday evening at No. 17 ranked Missouri S&T by a final of 72-69. The Cardinals fall to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell came out of the gates hot, grabbing an 11 point advantage after a three by Justice Sutton midway through the first half. The Miners followed with a 24-6 run to close the first period and hold a seven point lead, 34-27, at the break. 
• Missouri S&T extended their advantage to nine over the opening part of the second half before a Kanukayi Gudza triple sparked a Cardinal rally. Over the next six minutes Jewell went on an 18-4 run, led by 13 points from Ashton Jermain, to go on top by four just over five minutes to play. The Miners weren't done however, scoring back-to-back buckets to go back on top and converted on 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Bradley Lightbourne scored a game high 21 points. eight rebounds, and six assists.
• Sutton added 18 points and Jermain 13, while Gudza handed out five assists. 
• The Cardinals shot 42% from the floor and were a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
