Efficient Offense Leads Cardinals to Road Win Over Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team ran their win streak to eight on Thursday night with a 91-79 victory at Truman State. The Cardinals improve to 13-7 overall and 9-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after going 8-1 in the month of January and have rocketed to the top of the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals started hot, hitting 12 of their first 15 shot attempts, building a nine point advantage midway through the first half. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs hit eight three pointers to get back in the game and go on top 38-34 with five minutes to go. Jewell finished the half on 14-5 run, led by five points each by Kyle Scharbrough and Kanukayi Gudza, to lead 48-43 at the break.
  • Out of the locker room, Jewell went on a 12-1 run to quickly expand their lead to 60-46. Truman's Emmanuel Byrd scored eight straight points to help the Bulldogs cut the lead down to seven but a traditional three-point play from Justice Sutton sparked another Cardinal run expanding the lead to as many as 17 as the Jewell cruised to the 12 point win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell was efficient throughout the night, shooting 59% from the floor and 41% from three point land, scoring 40 points in the paint.
  • Sutton led all scorers with 22 points to go with a team high seven rebounds while Bradley Lightbourne added 20 of his.
  • Scarbrough finished with 17 with Isaac Patterson scoring 13 while handing out five assists.
