Cardinals Drop Non-Conference Contest at Northeastern State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The William Jewell football team suffered a 52-10 setback on Saturday at (RV) Northeastern State. The Cardinals drop to 4-2 overall as they enter the final stretch of Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The RiverHawks scored on their opening drive with an eight yard run but the Cardinals responded right away, aided by a 59-yard kick off return from Davin Thomas to set the offense up in NSU territory. After 10 plays, Bleu Renfrow connected on a 24-yard field goal to put Jewell on the board.

Northeastern State scored on their next three possessions to take a commanding lead until Brock Williamson's interception snapped the run. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, NSU returned the favor, grabbing a pick of their own on the first play of the ensuing drive and took the pass back 20 yards to extend their lead to 35-3 at the half.

The second half started positively for Jewell who took their first drive 40 yards down field for a touchdown after a one yard push by Charlie Loose but NSU added three more scores to close out the game.
