Box Score LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team snapped two different downside streaks on Saturday afternoon as they swept Illinois Springfield in straight sets. The Cardinals improve 2-14 on the season, breaking a 12-game losing streak, and 1-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, marking their first league win since October 2024.
Jewell got off to a strong start, jumping out to a 15-6 lead after a kill from
Silvia Fisher. The Prairie Stars did not go quietly in the opener, rallying with an 8-0 run to pull within one before the Cardinals were able to gain another separation, 22-18. A service error and another Fisher kill ended the set in favor of the Cards, 25-21.
Set two was all Jewell as a 10-2 run midway through gave the Cardinals a commanding 20-9 lead, behind Macy Barlett's four kills.
Kelsey Keling put down two balls late as Jewell cruised to 25-14 win.
Set three was back-and-forth with each team gaining short advantages. Trailing 19-18, the Cardinals rattled off five straight, including three points in a row from Keling to in front by four. UIS pulled back within one late but Keling's final kill gave Jewell the win, 25-23.

Jewell will hit the road next week for two more GLVC contests before the Midwest Region Crossover break. The Cardinals take on Truman State on Friday at 6 p.m. before a stop at Upper Iowa on Saturday.
