Cardinals Open Season With A Hit-Fest Versus Fort Smith

LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team kicked-off their 2026 campaign on Friday with a 17-10 loss at Talley Stadium to the Lions of Arkansas – Ft. Smith. 
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Luke Isaacs opened up the season with a solo shot in the first inning down the left field line to give Jewell an early one-run lead.
  • The Lions piled on 13 runs over the next four innings for a 13-1 lead before shortstop Luke Bies homered and Justin George clocked an RBI double for a two-run fifth inning for the Cardinals.
  • Brayden Blundell blasted his first homer of the year, a two run shot scoring Santiago Jimenez in the 7th while a bases-clearing double off the bat of George in the eighth and a RBI single from Austin Dahlberg helped spark a Cardinal rally late in the game but was not enough as the Lions won 17-10.

  • Cameron Naber got his first career start, going three innings and giving up right runs while receiving the loss.
  • Teams combined for 37 hits, 19 by Arkansas – Ft. Smith and 18 from Jewell.
  • Isaacs went 4-for-six in his Cardinal debut with a homer and scoring three runs.

UP NEXT
Jewell will look to avenge the season-opening loss to the Lions on Saturday, due to rain in the area the game has been moved to a 5:00 PM start time.
