LIBERTY, Mo. – After rain in Liberty postponed William Jewell Baseball's Saturday game to a doubleheader on Sunday the Cardinals avenged their game one loss to Arkansas Ft. Smith by taking both games against the Lions Sunday afternoon at Talley Stadium.
Teams combined for 27 runs in the two games with a 3-2 walk-off in the seven inning opener followed up with a 13-9 win in a full nine inning contest that saw the Cardinals battle back to take the rubber match and the three-game series.
Game 1 (Jewell 3, Arkansas - Ft. Smith 2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down one in the third, Luke Bies homered to right field to knot the game up at one all.
- The Lions matched with a solo-shot of their own to regain the lead in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the frame Luke Isaacs singled through the right side of the infield that plated Bies to tie things up again.
- Ryan Hunt didn't allow a hit coming out of the pen in the final two innings, including forcing a one-two-three inning in the seventh with a trio of ground outs to give Jewell the opportunity to walk it off in the home half of the inning.
- Santiago Jimenez ripped a double down the right-field line and advanced to third off the right-fielder's error in the corner to lead-off the inning. After Justin George was intentionally walked, Austin Dahlberg stepped up and delivered the walk-off RBI single to win 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied at one all in the second inning Ilyas van den Bos cranked a two-run homer scoring Austin Dahlberg that gave Jewell a two-run lead early in the game.

- With the bases loaded in the fourth a fielder's choice from Luke Bies scored Brayden Blundell to make it 5-5. After Arkansas Ft. Smith regained the lead in the fifth inning, 6-5, Blundell rocked a three-run shot to put Jewell up 8-6 heading into the sixth.
- The back-n-forth battle continued with the Lions going up 9-8 with a homer of their own, but after a fielder's choice from George made it nine all.
