Early Start For Cardinals, Drop Season Opener

LIBERTY, Mo - The William Jewell women's lacrosse team opened up the 2026 season Friday night, falling 17-4 to the Missouri Western State Griffons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kaylee Gross scored the first goal of the season for the Cardinals just over two minutes into the first quarter for an ealry lead.
  • After allowing a Griffons goal, Miranda Menousek broke the 1-1 tie with a goal of her own assisted by Sara Polovina. Less than a minute later Menousek would assist Elle Eastwood's goal that gave Jewell the 2-1 lead to end the first quarter.
  • Missouri Western scored 16 goals in the final three quarters to ultimetley leave with a 17-4 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brynn Devers played the full 60 minutes, racking up nine saves.
  • Gross had three shots, all on goal, with one that found the back of the net.
  • Evan Strain led the squad with four draw controls in her Cardinal debut.

UP NEXT
Jewell will be back at home on Wednesday night when they host Ottawa University.
