Box Score 2 ROSEMONT, Ill. - Playing inside The Dome, the William Jewell softball team split the opening day of the Lewis Dome Invite on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals dropped a tough 2-1 decision to St. Cloud State (9-1) before rallying for a 3-1 win over Roosevelt University (4-3).
Game 1: St. Cloud State 2, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies took the early lead in the weekend's opener with a sac fly before adding another score in the sixth on an RBI single by G Frechette.
- The Cardinals looked to rally in the top of the seventh as Alexa Alemejo doubled to left field and scored on an error but the tying run was left stranded.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals were limited to just three hits, one each by Alemjo, Tori Woodard, and Mikayla Chairez.
- Reagan Bennett (0-4) took the hard luck loss, working five frames, allowing just a single earned run on five hits.
Game 2: Jewell 3, Roosevelt 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first two Cardinals reached base in the third frame before back-to-back errors allowed Mikayla Chairez to score and put Jewell in front.
- The Lakers were gifted a run-scoring error of their own in the bottom half to knot the game at one apiece.
- In the following inning, Emma Jane Ogle sent a sacrifice fly to center to score Almejo, who had led off with a double.
- Roosevelt put two runners in scoring position in the fifth but Katie Heckman entered the circle to get two ground outs and end the threat.
- Jewell added an insurance run in the top of the sixth as Bennett singled and was pinch ran for by Alahna Wilson, who came around to score on the RBI base hit from Chairez.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell out hit Roosevelt 9-6, with two each by Alemjo, Avery Webster, and Lexi Lopez.
- Avrey Reynolds (1-1) was strong in the circle on her way to the win, allowing just a single unearned run over 4.1 innings.
- Olivia Wood picked up the save with a scoreless seventh.

Jewell will wrap up the Dome Invite with two more in-region contests against Purdue Northwest and Parkside on Sunday morning.
