FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The William Jewell men's lacrosse team used a fast start to pick up a 15-8 season opening win over Emmanuel University (Ga.). 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals scored the first five goals of the game, with back-to-back scores form Olivier LaPlante, to take the early 5-1 lead after the first period. Both teams scored twice in the second frame as Jewell led 7-3 at the half.  
• In the third quarter, the Cardinals got goals from Seth Heath, Cole Van Nes, and Wyatt Novak before LaPlante added a man-up score to push the lead to six. 
• Jewell added four more scores in the first four-plus minutes of the fourth period to open up a 10 goal advantage. The Lions got three late goals to bring the score to the final of 15-8.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• LaPlante scored six times on 11 shots while Heath added three scores and Nathaniel Lerous two goals and one assist. 
• Vance Flick and Cody Kaiser combined to win 10 face offs while Isaac Kessler made 11 saves in his first career start in goal.
• Jewell out shot the hosts 46-27 and were 22-of-26 on clear attempts.
