Jewell Rebounds for Big Win Over Columbia

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's lacrosse team got back in the win column on Tuesday evening with a 13-4 win over Columbia College (Mo.) to improve to 6-1 on the season. The game ended early in the fourth quarter due to severe weather. By rule, a game may be considered complete after 45 minutes. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell wasted no time taking the lead as Cole Van Nes scored his third goal of the season less than 60 seconds into the game. Carson Wright scored three straight before Aaron Maline found the cage to give the Cardinals an early 6-1 lead. Jewell scored three times in the second period to hold a commanding 10-2 advantage at the intermission. 
  • Columbia came out of the break with renewed energy, scoring twice in the first four minutes to pull back within six. Nathaniel Leroux, Wyatt Novak, and Brenner Mitts each scored to push the lead to 13-4 before severe weather rolled in. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Despite the early ending, Jewell out shot the Cougars 48-10 with 29 on goal.
  • Wright led the Cardinals with three goals while Mitts and Hudson Parnell each had two. Leroux handed out a team high three assists. 
  • Cade Smnider caused five turnovers and picked up six ground balls
  • The Cardinals won 15-of-20 face offs with Cody Kaiser taking eight and Vance Flick, 13. 
  • Isaac Kessler made five saves in the win.

UP NEXT
Jewell will host Rockhurst on Monday for a non-conference showdown with the Hawks before opening Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
