Bats Come Alive, Fall One Run Shy Against Minot State

LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell concluded their three-game series with a high-scoring, 13-12 loss against Minot State on Sunday afternoon. After rallying back down as many as five runs the Beavers would hold on to the series sweep. Jewell is 4-10 on the season after the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down three with the bases loaded Bronson Ryan ripped a base-hit to right that scored Hayden Post. One batter later Luke Bies also had an RBI single, followed up by a bases-clearing doubled off of the center field wall by Maddox Meier that gave Jewell a 5-3 lead in the second inning.
  • Bies gave the Cardinals the lead in the fourth, 7-6, with his third homer of the year.
  • Minot State plated six runs in the fifth to go up 12-7. Jewell put a five-run rally together over the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings that led to a tie game headed into the final frame, but a Beaver home run in the top of the ninth was too much giving Minot State the 13-12 victory.

KEY STATS
  • After Miles Hanzel got the start, Alex Smith, Mathew Greiner, and Ryan Hunt came out of the bullpen. The staff combined for three K's and six walks.
  • Ryan swiped three bags, the freshman is 8-for-8 on the season in steal attempts.
  • Jewell's 12 runs is the third most scored this year, while the 15 hits is the second most. The Cardinals had four doubles, tied for the most in a single game this season.

UP NEXT
Cardinals will have a quick turn-around to Tuesday when they host Northwest Missouri State at home after dropping last week's contest to the Bearcats.
