Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Late Rally Falls Short to No. 10 Lewis

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's lacrosse team pushed No. 10 ranked Lewis University to the brink, but a big third quarter by the Flyers allowed them to slip past the Cardinals 11-7. Jewell drops to 6-6 on the season and 0-4 in the very strong Great Lakes Valley Conference, as all four league opponents this season are receiving votes in the national poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lewis got things started quickly, scoring the game's first goal less than one minute into action but Aaron Maline knotted things up midway through the first quarter with his seventh of the season. The second period was again dominant by the defense on each side as the Flyers took a brief lead to start the quarter but Nathaniel Leroux quickly tied the game back up. Late in the half Brenner Mitts gave the Cardinals their first lead but Lewis' Lance McCann came back with a score just over 30 second later to make it 3-3 at the break.
  • The Flyers came out of the intermission on fire, scoring six goals in the first six minutes of the third quarter to open up a 9-3 advantage. The Cardinals put together a rally as Mitts scored just before the end of the third period followed by back-to-back goals from Leroux to open the fourth as Jewell pulled back within 9-6. Lewis added two quick scores to push their lead back to five before Leroux found Olivier LaPlante for a goal but the Cardinals could get no closer.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell was out shot 52-28 as Isaac Kessler finished with a career high 22 saves.
  • Leroux finished with four points on three goals and an assist while Mitts scored twice and had one helper.
  • Maline and Josh Hart each had three ground balls.
