Tritons Take Two On Overcast Friday

LIBERTY, Mo. – Jewell baseball fell in both seven-inning games against Missouri-St. Louis on Friday afternoon. After a 9-2 game one loss to the Tritons, UMSL took game two 6-2. Jewell is 6-24 on the season, and 2-13 in GLVC action.
 
 
Game 1 (Jewell 2, UMSL 9)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Second baseman Rui Yoshida got the scoring started for the Cardinals in the first inning with an RBI single through the right side of the infield that score Luke Isaacs for a 1-0 lead.
  • After UMSL plated four runs in the next two innings Jewell responded in the fourth with Koen Gakstatter singeling to bring Jack Homoly home to cut the Triton lead to only two.
  • The Cardinals found four baserunners the next three innings but none got farther than second base as Jewell dropped game one of the doubleheader 9-2.
 

KEY STATS
  • Charlie Rambo received the loss (2-4), striking out four, walking five, and giving up nine hits.
  • Isaacs tallied two hits, while Yoshida did the same with an RBI. Yoshida's hits are the first two of the season.
 
 
Game 2 (Jewell 2, Maryville 6)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a 1-2-3 first inning, Jewell advanced Luke Isaacs all the way to third before a groundout ended the inning.
  • In the fourth down 6-0, Isaacs doubled down the left field line into the deep corner to score Josiah Hussey for Jewell's first run of the game.
  • Jewell attempted a late-inning rally when Blake Tigges scored via a Bronson Ryan single up the middle but would fall short of mounting any more runs for a 6-2 final.

KEY STATS
  • Nick Taylor started game two, receiving the loss going only two innings, allowing two earned runs, and walking a pair.
  • Isaacs had his second two-hit game of the day, finishing the doubleheader 4-for-7 with a run and a double.
