Jewell Downs Rival Hawks, 10-4 In Series Opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Opening the final regular season series of the year with their cross-town rival, William Jewell baseball took down Rockhurst University 10-4 in Kansas City Crown action. The win places Jewell at 14-33 and 8-21 in GLVC action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cardinals played small ball through the first few innings, scoring on a walk, wild pitch, and a sac fly to hold a 3-0 lead going into the fifth inning.
  • With two outs in the sixth, Santiago Jimenez hit a homer to extend the Jewell lead to 4-2.
  • The Cardinals scored in the final four frames, including two in the seventh with an RBI single from Justin George after Hayden Post scored on a wild pitch and then again in the eighth with RBI knocks from Matt Goldasich and Luke Burns.
  • Koen Gakstatter hit home a run in the ninth for good measure as Jewell won 10-4.

KEY STATS
  • Peyton Little went the entire nine innings earning the win (2-1). The senior struck out five, gave up only two earned runs, and threw 136 pitches.
  • Jimenez was 4-for-4 with four runs and an RBI.
  • Jewell collected 14 hits, twice as many as the Hawks.
