TOPEKA, Kan. - The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a pair of contests of opening day of the 2026 season, falling 3-0 to Oklahoma Christian and 3-1 to No. 8 ranked Washburn.

Jewell got off to a slow start offensively in the opening set, hitting just .036, but took advantage of back-to-back errors by the Eagles to pull within 10-7. OCU used an 11-2 run to opener up a large lead before
Silvia Fisher stopped the skid with three kills, but Jewell could get no closer, falling 25-12.

Kali Adamec tied set two at 7-all early, as the Cardinals eventually took an 11-10 lead. The Eagles followed with a 12-3 run but Jewell countered with 7-2 spurt of their own, led by two kills from
Kelsey Keling, to pull within 24-21, but a kill by OCU's Molly Brunnell ended the rally.
Jewell fell into a 20-8 hole in set three before going on an 8-3 run, sparked by back-to-back kills from
Lily Waters, but the Eagles were able to finish off the set, 25-16 to take the match.

Allie Vanderbeek, and
Emily Brannan each had two blocks.

Jewell put together their best performance of the day in set one against the nationally ranked Ichabods, holding Washburn to a 0.050% attack percentage while hitting .149. The Cardinals jumped out to 10-5 lead after a block by Adamec and
Wylie Singleton. Leading 18-10, Washburn made a run, but the Cards withstood it as a Singleton kill, gave Jewell the 25-17 victory.
After dropping the opener, the Ichabods came back with a vengeance, taking the final three sets 25-12, 25-15, and 25-6.
