TOPEKA, Kan. - The William Jewell volleyball team wrapped up the Washburn Invitational on Saturday with a split of two games, defeating Westminster (Utah), 3-1, before falling to Arkansas Tech by the same score. The Cardinals move to 1-3 on the young season.
Following the Invite,
Madison Roney was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance across four matches.
Jewell 3, Westminster 1
After following into an early 7-3 hole, the Cardinals ran off six straight points behind kills from
Emily Brannan and
Macy Bartlett, to take their first lead. The Griffons went back in front midway through the set but two Westminster service errors helped spark a 13-7 run to take the opener, 25-19.
After dropping set two, Jewell jumped out to a 19-14 lead after a
Lily Waters kill. WU rallied to take a 22-20 lead but three straight points for the Cardinals knotted things up at 23-all. After three ties and four lead changes, Jewell finished off the frame, 27-25.
Leading 16-12, the Cardinals finished off set four with a 9-2 run, highlighted by three straight aces from Bartlett, to win 25-14.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Jewell hit .455 in the final set and were led by Barlett who finished with 14 kills and three aces.
• Roney collected a career high 20 digs and 11 aces while
Alexis Frazier had another double-double of 15 assists and 13 digs.
Arkansas Tech 3, Jewell 1
Arkansas Tech came out on fire hitting a combined .426 over the first two sets to open up a 2-0 advantage. Jewell responded using a 12-7 run in set three to open up a 19-14 lead. After a kill from the Suns stopped the run with a kill before the Cardinals ran off six straight, behind two aces from Roney to take the set, 25-15.
With the Cardinals trailing by just one midway through the fourth frame, Arkansas Tech used an 11-4 run to open up a commanding 22-13 advantage. Jewell got two kills and an ace from
Kali Adamec to pull back within three late but ATU finished things off, 25-21.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Jewell finished with 11 aces, the most since a victory over Lake Superior in 2025, highlighted by five from Roney.
• Adamec posted a team high 11 kills to go with three aces and three blocks.
• Frazier dug up a career high 18 balls to go with 11 assists for her third straight double-double.

The Cardinals return to action this weekend at the Pitt State Invite, taking on Arkansas Tech, Missouri Southern, Southwestern Oklahoma State, and the host Gorillas.
