PITTSBURG, Kan. - The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Arkansas Tech and Missouri Southern on Thursday afternoon at the Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pittsburg State. Jewell falls to 1-5 on the season.
Arkansas Tech 3, Jewell 0
The Golden Suns jumped out in front after hitting .406 in the opening set, but Jewell held strong until late. Trailing by just one after a
Macy Bartlett kill, Arkansas Tech finished on an 8-1 run to win 25-17.
ATU cruised to the set two win before the Cardinals put together a rally in set three. In the finale, neither team could grab more than a three point lead as back-to-back service aces by
Ashlynn Rowland knotted things up at 20-all. The teams traded consecutive points three times before two kills by the Golden Suns ended the match, 26-24.

- Bartlett led the offense with 10 kills while Alexis Frazier handed out 14 assists.
- Rowland had a game-high four aces.
Missouri Southern 3, Jewell 0
Trailing 21-14 in the opening set, the Cardinals went on a 4-2 run to get back within striking distance, but the Lions finished off the set to take the early advantage.
After a deficit in the middle frame, Jewell used a 7-3 run, led by two kills from Bartlett, to pull back within two midway through. The teams traded points the rest of the way as Missouri Southern pulled in front by two sets, 25-20. Set three started back-and-forth until the Lions outscored Jewell 12-7 to open up a 24-16 lead. The Cardinals got three straight points behind kills from Bartlett and
Kelsey Keling, and an ace by Rowland but MSSU used a kill to finish off the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Madison Roney finished with a game high 15 digs with Bartlett posting nine kills.
- Melanie Gardner handed out 15 assists while Frazier added 11.
