SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team got off to a strong start at Drury University but fell to the Panthers 3-0 on Friday night on the road. The Cardinals drop to 1-12 overall and 0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Jewell broke out to a 5-1 lead behind two service aces, one each from
Madison Roney and
Ashlynn Rowland. After a challenge went the way of the Panthers, Drury went on 19-6 run to open up a 20-11 advantage. Three straight kills from
Kali Adamec,
Silvia Fisher, and
Kelsey Keling stopped the skid as the Cardinals staved off three set points but ultimately fell 25-19.
A 5-0 run midway through set two pulled Jewell within two but the Panthers won seven of the final nine points to take the frame 25-20.
Set three was a back-and-forth affair as each team traded 4-0 runs midway through. Back-to-back blocks by Keling and Wyling Singleton pulled Jewell within one, but Drury scored five straight to pull away.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Macy Barlett finished with a team high 10 kills and 16 digs while Alexis Frazier also had a double-double of 32 assists and 11 digs.
- Singleton posted four blocks with Roney adding 10 digs.
