PITTSBURG, Kan. - The William Jewell volleyball team wrapped up action at the Gorilla Classic on Friday evening, falling to the host Pittsburg State by a final of 3-1. The Cardinals, who fell to Southwestern Oklahoma State earlier in the day, drop to 1-7 on the season.
Southwestern Oklahoma State 3, Jewell 0
The Bulldogs jumped out to a commanding 19-6 lead before Jewell found a rhythm, going on a 5-1 run, on kills from four different players. The Cardinals held off set point four times but SWOSU finished off the frame, 25-15.
Southwest Oklahoma again broke out to the early lead in set two and cruised to the 25-14 win to go on top 2-0. Set three started more evenly, as an ace from
Macy Bartlett tied things up at five. The Bulldogs outscored Jewell 20-8 the rest of the way, hitting .448 in the finale to sweep the match.

Pitt State used late runs in the first two frames to take a two set lead, despite the Cardinals hitting .262 in the second.
Trailing by two early, Jewell got a kill from Bartlett followed by a Keling and
Wylie Singleton block to go in front 11-10. The teams traded seven lead changes through the middle of the set until another Bartlett kill gave the Cardinals the lead for good. Singleton posted two kills and a block over the final six points as Jewell got the 25-19 victory to extend the match. The Cardinals were held to a .067 attack percentage in the fourth frame, falling 25-12.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell finished with a season high 45 kills, led by Keling's career best 15.
- Melanie Gardner handed out 23 assists while Frazier had 14.
- Roney dug up 16 balls with Ashlynn Rowland posting a career high 15.
