The William Jewell College women's basketball team opened their 2011 season with a 71-58 win over Buena Vista University on Saturday afternoon in Liberty, Mo.
Jewell came out strong and although they only shot 42% from the field in the first half the Cardinals held the Beavers to only 33% shooting and forced 17 turnovers in the first half to take a 35-23 lead at the half.
Jewell's field goal percentage improved in the second half as the Cardinals shot 51% and forced 25 turnovers for the game.
Leading the way for the Cards was sophomore
Chelsea Meeks who led all scorers with 25 points. The sophomore from Vincennes, Ind., connected on 11-of-14 shots from the field, and added two assists and four steals. Sophomore
Cassy Nicolay added 13 points and 7 rebounds for the Cards.
The Cardinals, 1-0 on the year, head Maryville, Mo., on Friday, November 18 to participate in the Northwest Missouri State University Classic.
