Cards Use Strong Second Half to Upend Southern Indiana

Box Score Box Score

The William Jewell Cardinal women used a strong second half surge to defeat University of Southern Indiana 60-55 on Thursday evening.   Holly Switzer had 18 points and Aerial Smith added 10 for the Cardinals.

Down by a 28-17 count at half, and only shooting 23% from the field,  the Cardinals (8-3, 2-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference) found the rim a little more to their favor in the second half.  Jewell fought back to tie the game at 46 and took the lead for good when Jessie Wheeler hit a three pointer with 3:56 to play.   The Cardinals were also able to capitalize from the free throw line hitting 18 of 23.

USI (6-7, 0-5 GLVC)  has lost four straight and six of its last seven.

The Cardinal women return to the Mabee Center Saturday afternoon to take on Kentucky Wesleyan .  The tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
