The William Jewell College women's basketball team ended the game on a 14-1 run, turning a 54-45 deficit into a 59-55 victory over Northwest Missouri State, Saturday evening in the Winstead Reeves Classic in Maryville, Mo.
The victory improves the Cardinals record to 2-1 on the year and Northwest Missouri State falls to 3-1 on the season.
Chelsea Meeks had a team-high 18 points and
Holly Switzer scored 17.
Jessie Wheeler scored 13 points including a key three pointer with seven seconds left to put the Cards up by two.
Northwest led 54-45 with 4:29 to play. Switzer then hit four layups and
Chelsea Meeks hit a free throw to tie things up with 1:24 to play. The Bearcats then took a one point lead when Hannah Branch hit one of two free throws. Wheeler then knocked home a clutch three pointer with seven seconds left and after a Bearcat turnover

The Cardinals shot 34.5-percent (19-of-55) from the field and just 4-of-17 (23.5%) from three-point land. Jewell was 17-of-23 (73.9%) from the free throw line, while the Bearcats were just 11-of-17 (64.7%). Northwest won the rebounding edge, 37-to-32.
At the conclusion of the tournament Switzer was named to the All-Classic team and Meeks was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
William Jewell will make their regular season home debut on Tuesday, November 20 as they host Calvary Bible College at 5:30 p.m. at the Mabee Center on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
