Jessie Wheeler netted 13 points while 
Holly Switzer 12 points including a clutch three pointer as the William Jewell College women's basketball team upset No. 3 ranked Pittsburg State University 68-66 Wednesday evening in Pittsburg, Kan.
The Cardinals improve to 4-1 on the season while Pittsburg State falls to 4-1. 
The Cardinals started out to a fast 7-0 start led by as many as 17 in the first half and went into halftime up 39-33.  Pitt State battled back to trim the lead to one when 
Holly Switzer hit a three pointer with 16 seconds left to give Jewell a five point lead.  After a Cardinal turnover the Gorillas had one last chance to tie or win the game but a three pointer by Pitt State rimmed out at the buzzer giving the Cardinals the victory.
“They are a talented team and I felt that if we gave them a close game we would have a chance,” said Head Coach 
Jill Cress. “Our bench played well for us tonight and I was very proud of how hard our team played and this is a great win for our program.”
The Cardinals will return home for a contest against Central Christian College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1 at the Mabee Center.
