Cards Roll By Former HAAC Foe Baker

The William Jewell women's basketball team improved to 6-2 on the young season after leading wire-to-wire in a 76-56 victory over former Heart of America Conference foe Baker University on Friday evening in Liberty, Mo.

Senior forward Katlyn Wood, who scored a game-high 20 points on the evening, drained a three pointer on their second possession of the game, a lead that Jewell would never relinquish.

The Wildcats pulled within six points with 3:50 to go in the first half before the Cards closed out the half on a 7-3 run to push their advantage to 36-26 heading into intermission.

Jewell opened the second half on an 8-0 run to break open the game. 

Along with Wood, sophomore forward  Rosa Hof, junior center Tesia Danner and and sophomore guard Aerial Smith also reached double figures in scoring.  Hof tallied 12 point while Danner racked up 12 points, and 5 rebounds and Smith tallied 10 points and three assists.  

The Cardinal defense forced 24 turnovers and held the Wildcats to 35.5% shooting from the field, including 23.8% from beyond the arc. 

Jewell will open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play January 3, 2013 as they host the University of Indianapolis at the Mabee Center at 5:30 p.m.
