The Newman University Jets used a second-half surge to hand the William Jewell College women's basketball team its first home loss of the season Saturday afternoon in Liberty, Mo. The Jets blew open a four-point game with a 13-2 run shortly after halftime and went on to post a 69-62 road victory.
William Jewell (5-2) held a 33-25 halftime lead following a first half that saw the Cards lead by as many as 15 with 4:07 to play in the first half. The Jets were able to close the gap to eight by half.
The Cardinals managed only one field goal over the first six minutes of the second half. Newman took advantage of the lull and built a lead it would not relinquish.
The Jets seized control of the game by hitting 7 of 14 from three point land in the second half. The Jets were able to outrebound Jewell by a 39-34 margin and forced Jewell into 23 turnovers.
Junior
Cassy Nicolay led the Cards with 19 points senior Katyln Wood finished with 11.
The Cardinals will look to get back on track Friday, December 14 as they host Baker University at 5:30 p.m. at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Mo.
