Second Half Surge Leads Cards to Victory in Home Finale

Box Score The William Jewell Cardinal women's basketball team closed the home portion of their 2012 campaign with 62-48 win over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Rockhurst University on Thursday evening in Liberty, Mo.  The win snapped a three game losing streak for the Cardinals.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half as the Cardinals shot 18% and Rockhurst followed suit shooting only 26% from the field in the first half.  The Lady Hawks took an 18-16 lead into halftime.

The Cardinals rebounded with a much better shooting performance in the second half shooting 44% from the field and started to pull away with a 10-0 run six minutes into the second half. 

Sophomore Chelsea Meeks led all scores with 36 points and a game high 5 steals.  Junior Holly Switzer pitched in 9 points for Jewell. 

The Cardinals (14-10, 9-9) will head to Las Vegas, Nev., to participate in the DII Showdown and will take on Minot State on February 25 at 3:00 p.m. CST.
