The William Jewell College Women's Basketball team erased a 14-point first-half deficit and held Graceland University to 38 percent second half shooting en route to a 94-85 victory on Tuesday in Liberty, Mo.
The Yellowjackets, a former Heart of America Athletic Conference foe of the Cardinals came out on fire hitting 64 percent from the field in the first half including 6-8 from three-point land and built a 14 point lead midway through the first half. Jewell came back and cut the lead to seven 48-41 at halftime.Â
In the second half, the Cardinals stepped up the defensive pressure and held Graceland to 38 percent shooting.Â
The lead switched back and forth a number of times and the game was tied 85-85 with 1:46 to play before Jewell ended the game on a 9-0 run sparked by a three-pointer from senior
Chelsea Meeks.Â
Meeks compiled a game high 32 points, five assists and 4 steals. Jesse Wheeler poured in 20 points and grabbed five rebounds while
Hayli Jo Smith scored 15 points and pulled down five rebounds.Â
Jewell, 4-2 overall will open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday, December 5 as they play host to Rockhurst University with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
