The William Jewell College women's basketball team improved to 5-2 on the season, winning their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, 81-66, over visiting Rockhurst University.
The Hawks jumped out to lead in the first half and built a lead as large as 9 before going into halftime up 7.
The Cardinals came out in the second half and held Rockhurst to 27 percent field goal shooting while Jewell went on a tear knocking down 60 percent of their shots in the second half.
Senior
Cassy Nicolay led the way with a game-high of 20 points. In addition, she grabbed 8 rebounds assists and went 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
Chelsea Meeks and
Hayli Jo Smith each contributed 18 points for Jewell.
The Cardinals will next host Central College of the Bible on Saturday, December 7 with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
