Overcoming a rough first half, the William Jewell College women's basketball team took the game over in the second half, defeating Bellarmine University, 70-62. The Cardinals are now 7-3 this season and 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
The Cards struggled to find their shot in the first half, shooting 28.6 percent from the field, but they were able to keep Bellarmine in check, and even overcame a 10 point deficit and trailed only by two at the midway point.
Jewell was able to find their range more in the second half hitting 48 percent of their shots and built a lead as big as 14.
Senior
Chelsea Meeks led the Cards with 21 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Hayli Jo Smith added 17 points and
Aerial Smith contributed 12.
William Jewell will continue GLVC play as they host Southern Indiana on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mabee Center on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.
