The William Jewell College women's basketball team suffered through a tough shooting first half and fell to University of Southern Indiana 84-81 in women's basketball Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Sunday at The Mabee Center .
The Eagles improve to 8-2, while the Cardinals fall to 7-4 and 2-1 in GLVC play.
The Cards struggled out of the gate, shooting only 37 percent in the first half and only 22 percent from three point land.
Southern Indiana built a lead as large as 14 but Jewell chipped away at the lead , trimming the margin to seven before heading to the locker room trailing 42-35.
Southern Indiana jumped out to a 10 point lead to start the second half only to see Jewell trim the lead to two. Jewell came within one again later in the half but was never able to grab the lead and Southern Indiana held on for the three point win.
Chelsea Meeks led the Cards with 23 points while
Aerial Smith contributed 14. Jewell had a tough time containing
Southern Indiana's Anna Hackert who finished with a game high 36 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds.
The Cards will travel to Rensselaer, Ind., to take on Saint Joseph's College on Thursday, January 9 with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
