The Cardinal women's basketball team roared out to a quick start and raced to a 84-74 win at Saint Joseph College in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Thursday. Â The Cardinals are now 8-4 this season and 3-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.Â
After the first half the Cards lead the Pumas 48 to 36.Â
The Cards had all five starters scoring double figures by senior Cassy Nicolay with 18 points and five rebounds. Â Chelsea Meeks added 13 points and eight assists, Maddie Nelson had 14 points, Aerial Smith had 12, and Hayli Jo Smith had 10.
The Pumas (2-8, 0-3 GLVC) clawed their way back in the second half, getting within six points with under two minutes to play, but they were stymied by the Cardinal defense.Â
