Box Score Jewell women's basketball came close to ending their losing streak Saturday at Maryville University, but fell short in overtime 90-88.
Chelsea Meek's three-pointer with under two seconds left sent the game to overtime, but Maryville built a pair of six point leads in the extra period to overcome a good effort by Jewell, who fall to 8-11 overall, 3-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Â The Cardinals have lost six in a row.
Maryville (11-8, 4-5) shot 48% from the floor, and Jewell shot 41%. Â Jewell was 26-29 from the free throw line, and Maryville was 25-30.
Meeks had 25 points and six assists, playing 30 minutes in the game after missing most of the first half with foul trouble. Â
Cassy Nicolay hit for 17 points and had nine rebounds, while
Hayli Jo Smith socred 16 points and
Maddie Nelson had a dozen.
Each team had 17 turnovers in the game.
The Cardinals are on the road again next week with stops at Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday, and Lewis University on Saturday.
