Box Score 2 The William Jewell College baseball team wrapped up a four game Great Lakes Valley Conference series with University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo. The Tritons took game one 3-2 in 10 innings and the Cardinals were able to take the nightcap 6-3. With the split Jewell moves to 9-19 overall and 7-11 in GLVC play.
In game one, UMSL jumped out with a single run in the top of the first before Jewell took the lead in the bottom of the fourth scoring two on RBI singles from
Vance Gorman and
Hunter Brown.
The Tritons tied it up with a single run in the seventh and then scored the winning run in the top of the tenth.
Jewell made it interesting putting a runner on first and third with one out in the bottom of the tenth but the Tritons were able to hang on for the one run victory.
Bryan Rezin went 2-4 with a run scored and
Luke Lucchetti picked up two hits for Jewell on the day.
Preston Felgate started the game and threw 3.2 innings giving up four hits and one run and was relieved by
Blaze Carano who threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Nick Farleigh (1-2) took the loss tossing five innings giving up three hits, two runs (one earned), one walk while striking out three.
In game two, Gorman's fielder's choice scored Lucchetti in the bottom of the first to tie things up at 1-1. In the bottom of the third, Jewell scored two runs when Lucchetti launched a double that scored
Bryan Porting and Porting would then come home on a single by Gorman.
Lucchetti continued his hot hitting adding another RBI in the bottom of the fifth that plated home
Jesse Gray to increase the Cardinals lead to 4-2. Coleman
Waheed and
Sam Morman added RBI's in the frame to push Jewell's lead to 6-2. UMSL scored a single run in the top of the seventh before the Cards closed it out for the 6-3 victory.
David Collins (2-4) picked up the win tossing a complete game giving up eight hits, three runs and one walk while striking out five.
The Cardinals will travel to Bolivar, Mo., on Tuesday, April 8 to take on Southwest Baptist University. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
