YOU SHOULD NOTE
CARDINALS VS. BEARCATS
This will be the eighth meeting between these two programs with McKendree owning all seven of the previous matchups. Each meeting has been a high scoring affair averaging a combined 62 points per game. The closest Jewell has come to a victory was a 24-29 loss back in 2013. Last season, the Cardinals had their best offensive outing of the year, scoring 31 points with two 100-plus rushers. Â
Â
MAJOR WALL
Senior
Major Walker continues to be a force to reckon with for opposing kickers. On Saturday at Southwest Baptist, he blocked a PAT attempt in the opening quarter, his second of the season to move into first place in the GLVC and fourth nationally. He owns seven blocks for his career, which is the most in the NCAA era for the Cardinals
.
Â
HE GONEÂ
Donte' Colum put on a show last week, grabbing two interceptions for a total of 95 yards. This was the first two interception game for a Cardinal since
Justice Taylor picked off two passes against Lincoln in 2015. Colum ran the first back for an 88-yard touchdown return. This pick six surpasses his 82-yard return from 2018 against Findlay which was the eighth longest in GLVC history. The redshirt senior is now up to seven interceptions for his career, just one away from tying Taylor for the NCAA-era record.Â
Â
WAGENER COMING ON STRONGÂ
The Cardinals have had to rely on younger players at the linebacker position for several weeks after injuries to key players. One of the players who have stepped up in a big way is
Kole Wagener. The redshirt sophomore has upped his game and enters the week ranked fifth in the GLVC in tackles-for-loss per game (1.08) and is tied with teammate
Cameron McKasson for ninth in the league with 0.33 sacks per game.Â
Â
SCHNEIDER CONTINUES CLIMBINGÂ
Quarterback
Will Schneider continues to climb the single season and career charts for the Cardinals. With his 30 points this season he has moved into a tie for fifth place with
Bulla Graft (2015-2018) with 96 for his career. Last week again Southwest Baptist he surpassed the 3,000 passing yards plateau and enters week seven tied with
Nick West (2012-2015) for first in the NCAA-era with 13.1 yards per completion.Â
Â
STILL STREAKING
Kicker
Dalton Dye continues to keep the Cardinals tied for first in the league alongside Indianapolis and Truman after hitting all 13 point-after-attempts this season. Dye has now hit 35 PAT in a row, dating back to November 2017. The redshirt junior has missed just two in his career, both coming during his freshman season.Â
Â
GLVC DEFENSIVE LEADERS
Redshirt senior
Brock Geisz continued his impressive final season as he posted 10 tackles for his fourth double-figure game of the season. He currently ranks second in the GLVC in tackles per game just .2 behind Drew Seers of Lindenwood.
Cameron McKasson's 7.6 tackles per game puts two Cardinals in the top 10 with
Donte' Colum and
Jack Gordon sitting just outside tied at No. 11. Â
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Turnovers proved costly last week for the Cardinals as they committed three fumbles that all led to Southwest Baptist scores. Jewell jumped on top 14-6 but the Bearcats responded by scoring 26 straight points over the next two quarters. The offense finally came back to life at the end of the third frame and put up 13 unanswered but a missed two-point conversion proved to be the difference as they fell 32-30.Â
Â
Brad Dee enjoyed a career day with 122 rushing yards and two touchdowns with
Will Schneider also finding the end zone with 73 yards on the ground.
Donte' Colum led the defense with two picks, including an 88-yard return for a score, the longest of his career. Four players finished with eight tackles while
Kole Wagener posted 1.5 sacks for seven yards lost.  Â
