On Tap
The Cardinals face a tough test on Saturday as they welcome No. 11 ranked Indianapolis to Greene Stadium for a Great Lakes Valley Conference match up.Â
YOU SHOULD NOTE
STREAKING
Kicker
Dalton Dye continues to keep the Cardinals tied for first in the league alongside Indianapolis and Truman after hitting all nine point-after-attempts. Dye has now hit 31 PAT in a row, dating back to November 2017. The redshirt junior has missed just two in his career, both coming during his freshman season.Â
Â
MAJOR WALL
Opponents who chose to kick against the Cardinals have to do so knowing that one of the best blockers in division II looms on the other side. Senior
Major Walker is tied for first in the nation with his two blocked kicks this season and now owns seven for his career to extend his hold on the NCAA-era career record. Junior
John Ekwomadu has also blocked one kick this fall to give Jewell three total.Â
Â
SCHNEIDER CLIMBING CHARTS
Junior quarterback
Will Schneider continues to make a name for himself as enters the week ranked 25th in NCAA-II in passing yards with 996, just 521 off his season total from 2018, with six games to go. He has already surpassed his total touchdowns from a year ago with seven and set a new career-high with an 80 yard touchdown toss to
Jalik Jaggwe in week one. On the NCAA-era charts he ranks in the top 10 in passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns, completion percentage, pass efficiency, average yards per pass and passing yards per game. In addition, Schneider has been crafty with his feet and also ranks among the best in rushing attempts and yardage, and already has the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback and is tied with
Darrick Strzelecki for third overall in the NCAA era.Â
Â
GLVC DEFENSIVE LEADERS
Redshirt senior
Brock Geisz continues to be a monster on the defensive side of the ball as he leads the GLVC and ranks 12 nationally with 11.2 tackles per game, 1.2 more than P. Chappel of Quincy in second.
Cameron McKasson sits in seventh place with eight take downs per game while also being tied for second with 0.50 sacks per game and fifth in tackles-for-loss.Â
Â
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
The Jewell offensive player of the week chosen by the coaching staff was junior
Jalik Jaggwe who posted a season-high 132 receiving yards on just eight catches on Sunday. The junior enters the week ranked second in the GLVC with 96 receiving yards per game.
Donte' Colum earned the honor on the other side of the ball with a career-high 12 tackles. The redshirt senior is also tied with teammate
Gianni D'Arienzo for fourth in the league with 1.50 defended passes per game.
Zach Powell earned special team honors while
Brandon Homan and
Tayte Sanders were named the Scout Team Players of the Week.Â
THE SERIES
This will be the eighth meeting between the Cardinals and Greyhounds, all coming after Jewell's move to NCAA-II. Jewell is 1-6 all-time but did hand UIndy its first ever loss in Great Lakes Valley Conference play in a 27-24 win in 2014. The Cardinals have struggled to put up points over the last three meetings being outscored on average 39-10.Â
