LIVE STATS 📊
Friday vs. Quincy

SERIES INFORMATION
  • Quincy leads the NCAA era series 9-4 including last years 3-0 win in early November. Last season, Jewell hit just .096 in the match, as they struggled to find a rhythm. Tori Vogt led the Cardinals with eight kills. Despite last year's loss, Jewell has won three of the last five matchups.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • The Cardinals open the unique 2020-2021 season as they host Quincy in a non-conference game. Jewell will play only Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents but a few contests will not be counted towards the GLVC record. The Cards are coming off a 11-21 season and were picked to finish fourth in the GLVC West in the preseason coaches poll.
  • Elizabeth Quinn headlines the defensive front as the senior led the GLVC in 2019 with 1.28 blocks per set which also finished 16th in Division II. Her 138 total blocks was also fourth in the league and 23rd nationally.
  • As a whole, the Cardinals put up a big block as they had more than two per set last season which was in the top-50 in Division II. Along with Quinn, classmates Maddie Wingert and Lacey Albers also averaged more than .75 per set as juniors.
  • Stepping into the libero role this season is sophomore Haidan Baade. The Ozark, Missouri, native spent last season as a reserve under starter Kennedy Ruckh, but shined late in the season. She posted a career-best 21 digs against Missouri S&T, playing three rotations. Baade will be the most senior player among the back row players as she is joined by two freshmen, Jordan Collard and Kaci Behrens. Collard and Baade are former prep opponents, as their high schools are separated by a mere eight miles.
  • The Cardinals are led by a strong four-member senior class in Quinn, Wingert, Tori Vogt and Lacey Albers. The four have combined for 1,764 kills and 596 blocks over 900 sets played. Wingert and Quinn have consistently been in the starting line up since their freshman season, with Wingert having only missed seven matches in three years. Vogt and Albers have combined for 79 starts.
  • Unlike the attacking positions, which feature a heavy dose of veterans, the setting role will be someone new for the first time in three years. After the graduation of two year starters Megan Rhule and Lauren Castaneda, a combination of junior Harper Auman, sophomore Hannah Cope and freshman Meghan Schneider will take over. Cope is the returning leader with 4.29 assists per set over 17 sets while Auman made nine appearances over 21 sets with and average of 3.71 assists. Meanwhile, Schneider is a two-time All-State performer from nearby Liberty High School.
  • Carolyn Raynes brought in her largest recruiting class since 2015 this fall with the addition of six freshmen. The class hails from as close as down the street at Liberty High School in Schneider and as far away as Chanhassen, Minnesota, the hometown of Katie Paine. Jorey Luebbert and Collard are also Missouri natives while Behrens and Anna Godfredsen come to Jewell from across the state line in Iowa. Along with the six freshmen, Jewell got a boost at the semester with the addition of Tatum Ernt, a sophomore transfer from Johnson County Community College. This group of newcomers are expected to come in and make an immediate impact.
  • Raynes is now in her seventh season at the helm of the Cardinal program and has made strides each year, including double-digit wins in four straight seasons and the first All-GLVC First Team performer in former libero Olivia Tolberd (2015-2019), who also became Jewell's all-time digs leader with 2,201.

Brown also led the GLVC with a .358 attack percentage. As a team, the Hawks were 10th in the league with a .913 hitting percentage on more than 4,400 attacks.
  • Setter Makayla Knoblauch is back to run the offense after finishing fifth in the leage with 1,172 total assists and sixth with 9.77 assists per set.
  • Quincy also returns their libero in senior Sarah Blair who posted 3.84 digs per set, while the setter Knoblauch followed closely behind with 3.01.
