CARDINAL NOTES
- The Cardinals are off a 41-21 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan last week and are in search of their first win of 2021. Jewell struggled to find an offensive rhythm as they were limited to 13 first downs and 286 yards of total offense.
- Expected to return in week five is quarterback Anthony Pritzel. The redshirt senior missed last week due to a minor injury but is leading the staff with a 49% completion rate, 548 yards and four touchdowns.
- Ishmial Mitchell is coming of the first 100-plus receiving yard game of his career with 119 of Jewell's 286 from a week ago. The fifth year senior put up the 119 yard on just six catches while scoring a touchdown. Overall, Jalik Jaggwe is seventh in the GLVC with an average of 592. yards per game, while Grant Latina, is ninth with 50.3.
- The Cardinals were held to just one positive rushing yard against Kentucky Wesleyan and enter the week seventh in the conference with an average of 102 per game. Tabren Yates leads the team with 150 total yards and one score on 40 carries.
- Defensively, Jewell has four players with at least 20 tackles this season, led by Kian Betancourt with 27, including 4.5 for loss. Carson Anderson boasts 25, with one interception and a fumble recovery while true freshman Adam Callahan has 20 tackles.
- Radell Washington has gotten to the opponent's quarterback in each of the last two games and is also credited with four additional QB hurries.
- Brady Monks enters the week with 1,213 punting yards on an average of 39.13, second best in the GLVC. The redshirt junior is on pace to break into the program's all-time top-15 single season chart in average punting yards.
ABOUT McKENDREE
- McKendree enters conference play at 1-3 on the year, coming off their first win over Walsh, 24-10 on the road.
- The Bearcats are seventh in the GLVC in scoring offense, averaging 17.8 points per game, just ahead of the Cardinals at 17.5. Although five different players have thrown a pass this season, the team is usually led by Turner Pullen who completes 46% of his passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns this season while throwing just one interception.
- On the receiving end of those passes is primarily Jacob Bachman and Steven Towns, Jr., who combine for 34 of the Bearcats 61 receptions and 323 of 524 receiving yards this season.
- McKendree has found success on the ground, averaging 179.3 yards rushing per game this fall, third best in the GLVC and 46th in Division II. Three players rank in the top-12 in the league in rushing yards per outing, led by Jace Franklin IV at 86.3.
- Defensively, Michael Tucker and KeShon Spraggins have done majority of the damage for the Bearcats with 35 and 27 tackles, respectively, including nine combined tackles for loss and three sacks.
- Mike Babcock is now in his ninth season with the McKendree program. As a linebacker at UCLA he was a member of the 1997 and 1998 Pac-10 championship teams.
