CARDINAL NOTES
- William Jewell looks to make up some ground this week in two rematches and snap a three-game skid.
- One of the most improved areas for the Cardinals as of late is the free throw line. After shooting just 53% from the stripe in the first four games of the season, the Cardinals have shot 71% since November 29.
- Jewell has struggled to get off to good starts recently, being outscored 54-19 in the opening quarter and 70-37 in the third over the last three games. In the second quarter, the Cardinals tend to find a rhythm and are keeping pace, outscored by only five 51-46.
- Kate Hillyer continues to impress in her debut season, averaging a team-leading 9.3 points per game including at least 13 points in three of the last four games. The freshman also leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per game, including nearly two per night on the offensive end.
- Jewell is one of the better defensive teams in the GLVC from long range, holding opponents to just 28.8% from three, sixth-best in the conference.
- The Cardinals are in their 49th season of varsity basketball, and chasing the 800-win mark, entering the season at 785. The program has won nine conference championships and appeared in seven national tournaments.
- Jill Slominski entered the 2021-2022 season with 459 career wins, making her the winningest active coach in the GLVC and 21st in Division II.
ABOUT DRURY
- Drury took the first meeting of the season with the Cardinals, less than two weeks ago, by a final 90-42.
- The Panthers are expected to be without reigning National Player of the Year Paige Robinson, who is reportedly out with injury until mid-February, but the top ranked Panthers have plenty of firepower remaining on the bench.
- In addition to Robinson, Alana Findley (14.0) and senior transfer Kaylee DaMitz (13.9) also average in double-figures for Drury with the former also leading the team with 8.2 rebounds per game. DaMitz is coming off a 32-point performance against Lewis.
- As a team, the Panthers continue to lead the GLVC in scoring (83.2), steals (13.5), turnovers forced (24.4), free throws (259) three-point percentage (39.4) and turnover margin (10.88).
- Amy Eagan, the reigning Division II National Coach of the Year, is in her second season at the helm of the Drury program and coming off a national final appearance. Previously, she spent six years as the head coach at Truman State.
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
- Missouri S&T enters the week at 4-7 on the season and won the first meeting with the Cardinals 74-62 in early December.
- The Miners are led offensively by Laura Rodriguez and Alex Kerr who average 13.6 and 11.5 points respectively. As a team, Missouri S&T ranks ninth in the conference with 67.4 points per night.
- The Miners boast a big back line with two 6-foot-3 centers in Kerr and freshman Katelynne Roberts. The pair combined for more than three blocks per game to lead the GLVC.
- Kira Carter is in her second season with the Miners and at 4-7 this winter, has matched the win total from last season.
