Jewell Volleyball Heads to Midwest Region Crossover

LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell volleyball team takes a break from Great Lakes Valley Conference play this week and travels to the annual Midwest Region Crossover to take on three opponents. The Crossover pits all GLVC institutions against those from the GLIAC and GMAC who make up the other two-thirds of the Midwest Region. Teams are seeded and assigned opponents based on midseason conference standings.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • The Cardinals have been successful at the Crossover over the years, particularly under Carolyn Beck, going 13-8 overall and 9-3 since 2017.  
  • Jewell has met Lake Erie twice before, the last coming in 2019, going 1-1 during that time. 
  • Lake Superior is one of the teams the Cardinals faced at the 2021 Crossover, winning 3-0, and going 4-1 overall against the Lakers. 
  • Jewell and Malone have met twice before, at the 2015 and 2019 Crossovers with the Cardinals taking both meetings, 3-1. 
 
CARDINAL NOTES
  • Bella LaPorta continues to lead the GLVC and rank among the top players in Division II in total kills, coming into the week with 284 (12th in DII). This total puts her fifth in the NCAA era, 10 behind Paige Cunningham (2016) in fourth place. Her 3.38 kills per set is on pace to finish second, behind only Hannah Herndon's 3.58 in 2011.   
  • Haidan Baade is tops in the GLVC with 366 digs, good for 24th nationally. Her 1,074 career pickups sit fourth in Jewell's NCAA era and fourth among active GLVC liberos. 
  • The Cardinals are third in the conference and 26th in Division II with 164.5 total blocks this season. Alex Dvorak is seventh in the league with an average of 1.01 rejections, tops amongst GLVC freshmen and one of 16 rookies nationwide to average more than one per set.
