CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is coming off one of their better weekends of the season after holding a third quarter lead over Truman and getting off to a solid start at Quincy. Over their last three games, the Cardinals has averaged 55 points, well above their previous season average and shot 37% from the floor and 38% from three.
  • Katie Knock blocked two shots on Saturday at Quincy to raise her season total to 24 to surpass Hayli Jo Smith for third in a single season in the NCAA era. The sophomore is one shy of Madison Campbell's 25 which was done in 2016. Additionally, she is already tied with Kiara Bradley (2018-21) for seventh in an NCAA era career.
  • In addition to blocking shots, Knock has been on a tear in the scoring column as well in recent weeks. She has scored in double figures in each of the last four games and five of the last six, tying her career high with 17 points at Truman last Thursday. In the last three games, she is leading the team with 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 47% from the floor and 42% from long range.
  • Lea Finn has played a versatile role for the Cardinals over the last four years, averaging 16 minutes over 88 games, scoring 420 points. The senior has quietly crept up the career charts and is now tied with Holly Switzer (2011-13) for 12th in field goal percentage (.394) and is 11th with 200 three-point field goal attempts, just one behind Katlyn Wood (2011-13).
  • Libby Arnold continues to provide a consistent presence on both ends of floor. The Cardinals leading scorer (9.8 ppg) has put in double figures in eight of 10 games since January 20. Additionally, the sophomore has picked up her production on the glass, now up to a 4.7 rebounds per game average, having picked up at least five boards in five of the last 10 games. On Saturday at Quincy, she pulled down seven total with a season best five on the offensive end.
  • Skyler Boylan is another young player who continues to get better each time out as the freshman put up a career best 17 points and seven rebounds on Saturday. The daughter of former Jewell All-American Nate Boylan, she has averaged just under 10 points and 4.3 rebounds over the last week while shooting 46% from the floor and 50% from three.
  • The Cardinals are in their 49th season of varsity basketball, and chasing the 800-win mark, entering the season at 785. The program has won nine conference championships and appeared in seven national tournaments.
  • Jill Slominski entered the 2021-2022 season with 460 career wins, making her the winningest active coach in the GLVC and 21st in Division II.
