THE SERIES

The Cardinals and Panthers met for the first time last season as Ohio Dominican escaped with a 35-25 win. After falling into an early hole, allowing 35 points in the first half, the Cardinals defense posted a second half shutout but the rally fell short.

EGGERS, QUINN RECORD FIRST SCORES
Late in the second half of last week's game quarterback Taylor Eggers connected with Winston Quinn for a 15-yard score, the first of both player's careers. Eggers joined the Cardinals this fall from Clarion University while Quinn has battled injury during his career but enters week three leading Jewell with 90 receiving yards on eight catches.

YOU GET A TURNOVER, AND YOU GET A TURNOVER
The Jewell defense has shown an early knack for turnovers, sitting with six through the first two weeks of the season. That total is second in the GLVC, behind only Truman's seven, and is 13th nationwide. The Cardinals lead the league with five interceptions from five different players including Sean Mitchell, Carson Anderson, Kwesi Hooks, Ethan Fuentes and Ethan Reynolds, while Preston Snead and AJ Kurke have each forced a fumble.

NEWCOMER GEELEN AMONG GLVC'S BEST
In his first season, Paul Geelen is showing consistency in all areas of the kicking game. The freshman is third in the GLVC with 38.6 yards per punt and second with a field goal percentage of 66.7. He has totaled 734 punting yards with a season long 52-yarder against Black Hills State, with five pinned inside the 20 yard line.

DISCIPLINED ON BOTH SIDES
Jewell continues to be one of the most disciplined teams in Division II, coming into the week ranked first in the GLVC and fifth nationally with just seven penalties for 42 total yards. Meanwhile opponents are giving the Cardinals an average of 89 free yards per outing on 16 penalties.

CARDINALS IN OHIO
William Jewell makes the long haul to Ohio for the third time in program history but the first time in a regular season game. The Cardinals defeated Wittenburg College (Springfield, OH) in the 1969 Amos Stagg Bowl by a final of 27-21 in their first trip to the Buckeye State. In 1980 they returned to take on Wilmington College in the NAIA playoff where they fell in the second round. The Cardinals also hosted Wilmington in the opening round of the 1983 NAIA playoff. Most recently, Jewell played host Central State in 2012, initially falling 23-21 but later received a win by forfeit.

YEAR THREE UNDER MCGLINCHEY
Jewell is entering their third season under Mike McGlinchey and looking for strides forward after battling through the challenge of recruiting back-to-back classes in a pandemic. The coaching staff brought in a 48-member recruiting class this fall to bolster the roster and add much needed depth across the lines

NEW COACHES ON THE BLOCK
William Jewell welcomed in three new members of the coaching staff last spring. Alex Kastens took over the offensive line after spending the 2021 season at the University of Mary and a playing career at Carroll College. Timothy Schroer appeared in two NCAA-III national playoffs as a safety and corner at St. John Fisher College (N.Y.) and will coach the outside linebackers, while Jackson Hall will oversee the running backs after completing his playing career at Northern Colorado. Additionally, Louis Cortes was elevated to the role of defensive coordinator while Neil Linhart was promoted to assistant head coach.

THE 2022 SCHEDULE
The Cardinals will make the exact same journey as last season with reverse locations. Jewell will complete two-year agreements with Colorado Mesa, Kentucky Wesleyan, Black Hills State, and Ohio Dominican, traveling to the latter two opponents. The Cardinals will also hit the road to Lindenwood in October, who is no longer a GLVC opponent, having made the transition to Division I and the Ohio Valley Conference but will avoid leaving an open spot on the schedule with the non-conference matchup.

GREENE STADIUM FINALE
Greene Stadium was completed in 1955 and has served as the home of the Cardinals for the past 66 seasons but 2022 will be its last. Following the conclusion of the season construction will begin on The Link Project which will include among its features a new indoor arena, locker room and coaches spaces, athletic training room and student fitness center on the inside of the building along with a new stadium and campus entrance design on the outside. The $20 million campaign was matched this summer and the ceremonial ground breaking will take place on homecoming weekend, on the morning of October 1.
