Cardinal Baseball Hosts Wayne State for Home Opener

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team returns to Talley Stadium for the first time in 2023 to host a three-game series with Wayne State College (Neb.). Live stats will be available on Saturday while Sunday's game will also be available on the GLVC Sports Network.

CARDINAL NOTES
  • Jewell is coming off a 1-2 showing last weekend at Northeastern State (Okla.), winning their first game of the year 8-7 in game two.
  • Jake Wilcox enjoyed a solid opening weekend, hitting .429 with five RBI, three runs and two home runs. In game two, he blasted a two-run bomb in the top of the tenth inning to break a 6-6 tie and give the Cardinals their first win.
  • Will Brant also hit above .400 on the week, at .417 with five hits while Quincy Aldrich drove in three runs and scored three more.
  • Jackson Bodinson picked up his first win in relief in game two while Chandler Ashby posted a seven-inning outing with four strikeouts in his Jewell debut.
  • Mike Stockton who is in his 22nd season at the helm of the Cardinal baseball program, is a member of the William Jewell Athletics Hall of Fame, owning more than 600 career victories.
