LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team opens Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend. The schedule has been altered due to expected temperatures as the Cardinals will host Southwest Baptist on Sunday before traveling to Drury on Monday afternoon.

CARDINAL NOTES

• Jewell is a series win over Northern State earlier this week. In a rare three-game series, the Cardinals took the opener 4-3 and the rubber match 1-0, dropping game two 3-1.
• The Cardinal pitchers held NSU in check this week, allowing just four earned runs over 21 innings with 16 strikeouts. Aliyah Santiago boasts a 1.77 ERA on the year, sixth best in the GLVC, after tossing a complete game in the opener. Meanwhile Sammie Welt was superb in two appearances, working nine total innings with just four hits allowed, including the complete game shutout on Monday.
• Payton Totzke leads the offense with a .308 batting average with nine runs scored and 10 walks. The senior was 3-for-7 against Northern State with three runs.
• Dustin Combs is in his 16^th season with the Cardinals, owns more than 400 career wins and is looking for return to the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2018.
