MANHEIM, Pa. - The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced the six finalists, representing each of the Division's Super Regions, for National Rookie of the Year. William Jewell's
John Gholson has been named the finalist representing Super Region 4.
The 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, went 19-10 in debut season, including 6-1 in conference action. He finished fourth at 184 pounds in the Super Regional, just one spot shy of the NCAA Divsiion II National Championship Tournament. He was the runner-up at the Maryville Open and placed fifth at the Drury Open while being named the GLVC Wrestler of the Week on January 17. He became the first wrestler to be named All-GLVC earning Second Team honors in the program's second year in the league.
The National Rookie of the Year honor will be announced in the coming weeks.
